Hello there, I'm Terri and welcome to Frost Bottom Studio!
The name Frost Bottom Studio (FBS) came to life more than a dozen years ago and I'm often asked “What does Frost Bottom mean?". In a nut shell, a ‘frost bottom' is an eco-term to describe a low lying area where early frost occurs in the fall and late frost in spring. FBS is located in this type of eco-system, so naturally Frost Bottom Studio was born.
I grew up on Cape Cod and I'm fortunate to still call this magical place home. I've been working successfully in the dental field for 30 years but I've often found myself wishing to branch out and earn a living by my own craft. I started making my own candles in 2017 because I noticed that our ceilings, cabinets and countertops would become covered with a sticky soot after burning paraffin wax candles. I did not want us to be breathing in that yucky soot, so I researched to find a cleaner burning product and discovered soy. I've decided to not heavily fragrance my wax or add chemicals and dyes to ensure my candles are virtually soot free.
I began my pottery journey at the start of 2020. I've been a collector of pottery for years and I decided to finally take the plunge into the world of ceramics myself. During the pandemic shutdown, I was furloughed from my job for several months and I was able to borrow a friend's pottery wheel which I utilized to practice my budding skills and keep my mind off of Covid-19. Since then, I've been able to invest in my own pottery wheel and electric kiln for my home studio. I continue to educate myself with different instructors and techniques at Falmouth Art Center and also with ClayShare (an online forum). I've only scratched the surface but I'm positively hooked. I've started to combine my love for candles and pottery by making small reusable pottery pots and pouring your choice of FBS fragranced wax into them.
Thank you for stopping by, I sincerely hope that you enjoy your new Frost Bottom Studio candle or pottery. piece as much as I have enjoyed creating it for you!
